KYRIE

Kyrie is an award-winning student film of the LA Independent Women Film Awards. Following her grandmother's death, Milly reluctantly returns to a church funeral, surrounded by devout, judgmental relatives oblivious to her detachment. Her mother, Lize, has recently "found God." This environment of passive-aggressive funeral preparations, side glances, and occasional Afrikaans jabs leaves Milly isolated at the dinner table.

Tensions escalate when Milly slams her mom's Bible down during a family gathering. She later discovers the book is filled with scribbles and doubts, indicating that even Lize questions her own spiritual "glow." They share a brief, heartfelt conversation during a late-night drive, but it quickly fades.

The next morning at church, Lize is glowing at the front, immersed in the hymns, while Milly is politely relegated to the back pew. She mouths the words, attempting to fit in, but feels out of place—wrong song, wrong location, wrong everything. The film concludes without resolution, portraying a mother and daughter who genuinely tried but still failed to connect.
